Obama and Syria
For those of you following the news from the Middle East you are aware of the use of chemical weapons that occurred last weekend that lead to the deaths of thousands of the Syrian people. The International community is calling for a response to stop the carnage. The question is what kind of response. A missile strike is a quick clean response, but what does that solve. Does the international community enact a boycott, and blockade of Syrian ports?
Does the UN put Blue Hats on the ground? One look around the world shows that is not effective. Just look at where the UN is and its effectiveness in the locations in Africa where they have a presence.
Now we come to the United States and President Obama's Red line statement regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government against their own people. A truly horrible act but is there a difference with how the people were killed? Be it by being shot or killed with a chemical weapon? The people are still dead and their towns and homes are still destroyed.
Again I ask does the United States under President Obama send in the Missiles and air strikes which will be limited in effect. Or does the United States once again put boots on the ground?
If you look at the past history of military actions from the last half of the 20th century where air-power was used; you will find that no matter where it was employed; Afghanistan, Vet Nam, Bosnia pick the conflict. Nothing happened until there were boots on the ground.
That’s the prospect that’s facing the World Community and President Obama and the United States. Another entanglement in a ground war, a civil war to be exact.
And then there is Israel reports coming in says the IDF has gone on alert, and gas masks have been distributed to the Israeli people. So now the entire world focuses on the United States and the box that President Obama has put the United States in.
And Mr. Putin sits back and smiles; and watches.
